Background
Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease, but it remains a major surveillance priority due to outbreaks and gaps in vaccination coverage. WHO and CDC estimated 10.3 million measles cases worldwide in 2023, a 20% increase compared with 2022. An estimated 107,500 people, mostly children under five, died from measles in 2023. Because measles is highly contagious, suspected cases require rapid laboratory support and public health follow-up.
Symptoms may overlap with other febrile rash illnesses, especially at early stages or in imported cases. Laboratories involved in surveillance and outbreak investigation need robust, focused tools for timely confirmation.
Product information
VIRPLEX Measles is a real-time RT-PCR kit for the qualitative detection of measles virus RNA in respiratory and saliva specimens. The assay incorporates a multi-level control strategy that enhances confidence in result interpretation. In addition to external positive and negative controls, it includes an exogenous internal control to monitor amplification performance and detect potential PCR inhibition, as well as a human endogenous RNase P control to assess sample quality and verify successful nucleic acid extraction.
Its dual-target design, directed against the measles virus N and H genes, provides additional diagnostic robustness. Combined with pre-dispensed lyophilized reagents and easy integration into routine RT-qPCR workflows, VIRPLEX Measles offers a practical solution for clinical, reference, and public health laboratories requiring rapid, specific, and highly controlled molecular testing.
